Bird Pies Recipe
- Suet, 2 to 3 c. melted
- Peanut butter
- Yellow corn meal
- sunflower seed
- Regular bird seed
- Finely cracked corn
- Bread crumbs, bought and unspiced
- Raisins
- Finely minced nuts
- Finely grnd egg shells
- Brown sugar, approximately 1/4 c.
- Chop or possibly shave suet and place in a large metal saucepan.
- Heat, stirring constantly, understanding which some will remain semi solid.
- Don't allow to smoke.
- Remove from heat.
- Add in peanut butter and dissolve.
- Then add in other ingredients alternately till the mix is the consistency of oatmeal.
- Pour into pie pans and cold.
- Store in the freezer.
- Recycle your mesh onion bags by placing a bird pie inside and hang outside for the birds.
- Feed mainly in winter, lest the mix spoil in hot weather.
- Note...rinse your eggshells and let dry completely.
- Place in a double plastic bag and crush finely with a rolling pin and save for future use.
