Red Wonder Cake
- 1 oz. red cake coloring
- 3 rounded tsp. cocoa
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 1 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. buttermilk *
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. vinegar
- Grease and flour or line with wax paper 2 (8-inch) cake pans. Make a paste of red cake coloring and cocoa.
- Cream the Crisco and granulated sugar.
- Add eggs, one at a time, and beat well after each addition.
- Add vanilla and the red paste and mix well.
- Sift flour and salt.
- Add to mixture alternately with buttermilk. Dissolve baking soda in vinegar.
- Fold at once into batter.
- Do not beat.
- Pour into baking pans and bake in 350u0b0 oven for 35 minutes, or until done.
- Spread icing on cooled cake.
- Can also be made into cupcakes.
