Chicken and Dumplings
- 1 whole chicken
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 12 teaspoon baking powder
- 12 cup lard (cold) or 12 cup shortening (cold)
- 1 egg
- 12 cup sweet milk
- yellow food coloring
- Mix flour,salt, baking powder and lard in a large bowl.
- In a smaller bowl beat egg, milk and food coloring well.
- Add to flour mixture and knead until no longer sticky.
- Cut into 3 pieces, roll out and cut these into squares.
- Add to broth.
- Boil one whole chicken in 2 1/2 quarts broth and water.
- remove chicken and let cool.
- debone.
- Add chicken to dumplings and continue to boil.
