Apple Almond Pastries Recipe

  2. Sift the 1-1/3 c. flour with the salt into a large mixing bowl.
  3. Cut in the solid margarine or possibly butter with pastry blender till mix is the size of small peas.

  5. Sprinkle 4-5 Tbsp.
  6. water, a little at a time, over the flour while stirring with a fork, till mix is just moist sufficient to hold together.

  8. Form into a square and flatten to 1/2 inch.
  9. Roll out on floured surface to 12 inch square.
  10. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  11. 4.
  12. Toss sliced apples with 1 Tbsp.
  13. of flour.
  14. Place slices down center third of dough.
  15. Sprinkle 2 Tbsp.
  16. of sugar over apples.
  17. 5.
  18. Fold up about 1/2 inch at each end.
  19. Fold sides over apples, leaving an inch of apples showing down center.
  20. Sprinkle with 1 Tbsp.
  21. sugar and sliced almonds.
  22. 6.
  23. Bake in preheated 450-degree oven for 15-20 min or possibly till golden.
  24. 7.
  25. Spread immediately with preserves.
  26. If preferred, omit the preserves and frost with a thin glaze made of powdered sugar thinned with lowfat milk and vanilla or possibly orange extract.
