Whole-Grain Soda Bread
- 1 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
- 1 c. quick cooking oats, uncooked
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- all-purpose flour
- 6 Tbsp. margarine or butter
- 1 1/2 c. golden raisins
- 2 tsp. caraway seed
- 1 1/2 c. buttermilk *
- About 4 hours before serving or early in day, preheat oven to 350u0b0.
- Grease cookie sheet.
- In large bowl, combine first 6 ingredients and 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour.
- With pastry blender or two knives used, scissor-fashion, cut in margarine or butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in raisins and caraway seed.
- Stir in buttermilk just until flour is moistened (dough will be sticky).
