Granny's Beef Stew Recipe
- 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 2 lbs. stew meat, 1 inch pcs
- 2 tbsp. shortening
- 6 c. warm water
- 3 pared med. potatoes, 1 inch pcs
- 4 carrots, 1 inch slices
- 1 green pepper in strips
- 1 c. celery, 1 inch pcs
- 1/2 c. onion, diced
- 1 tbsp. salt
- 2 bouillon cubes
- 1 bay leaf
- Mix flour, 1/2 tsp.
- salt and pepper.
- Coat meat with mix.
- Heat shortening in large skillet; brown meat thoroughly.
- Add in water; heat to boiling.
- Reduce heat; cover and simmer 2 hrs.
- Stir in remaining ingredients.
- Simmer 30 min or possibly till vegetables are tender.
- If you like, thicken stew.
- In covered jar, shake 1 c. cool water and 2 to 4 Tbsp.
- flour till blended.
- Stir into stew; heat to boiling, stirring constantly.
- Boil and stir 1 minute.
- 6 servings.
