Holiday Herb Bread Stuffing Recipe
- 8 c. bread cubes, slightly dry
- 4 tbsp. butter
- 1/2 c. diced onion
- 1/2 c. diced celery
- 3/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning or possibly sage
- 1/2 teaspoon thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon marjoram
- 1 teaspoon dry parsley
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt; optional
- About 1 1/2 c. chicken or possibly turkey broth
- Saute/fry celery and onion in butter till tender.
- Combine with bread cubes and seasonings.
- Toss with sufficient liquid to moisten the bread cubes to the consistency you prefer.
- Stuff fowl loosely or possibly bake in a buttered covered casserole for about 1 hour and 15 min in a 325 degree oven.
- Makes about 6 c. stuffing.
- Try adding 3/4 c. sliced mushrooms, fresh or possibly canned, to this recipe, or possibly simmer giblets, using the reserved liquid for broth.
- Chop the giblets and add in to the stuffing.
