Basic Marinara Recipe
- 2 (28-30 ounce.) cans crushed tomatoes
- 2 (6 ounce.) cans tomato paste
- 4 tbsp. sugar (more if sweet marinara is desired)
- 1 tbsp. oregano
- 1 tbsp. basil
- 1 teaspoon garlic pwdr
- 1 teaspoon onion pwdr
- 2 bay leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic in oil, minced Or possibly 1 clove garlic, minced + 1/2 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
- In 3 qt saucepan, place garlic and oil over low heat.
- When oil is slightly bubbling and garlic is gold in color (not brown), stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato paste.
- Blend till paste is absorbed into sauce, then add in seasoning and sugar; stir and cover.
- When sauce begins to bubble, stir; recheck flame to be sure it is low.
- Cover and let simmer 45 min to 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- Serves 8.
- Optional: Add in sauteed onions, peppers or possibly mushrooms.
