Merk'S Coffee Cake
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3 eggs
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/2 pt. commerical sour cream
- 6 Tbsp. margarine, softened (I prefer it hard)
- 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla thoroughly.
- Add eggs, singly, beating well after each addition.
- Sift flour, baking powder and soda together.
- Add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream, blending well after each addition.
- Spread half of batter into tube pan, greased and floured.
- Cream brown sugar, the margarine and cinnamon together; add nuts and mix well.
- Dot batter with 1/2 of this mixture.
- Put rest of batter on top and sprinkle balance of mixture on top.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 50 minutes.
