German's Sweet Chocolate Cake

  1. Melt chocolate in boiling water.
  2. Cool.
  3. Cream buter and sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add yolks, 1 at a time, beating well after each.
  5. Blend in vanilla and chocolate.
  6. Sift flour with soda and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition until smooth.
  7. Beat egg whites until stiff; fold in beaten whites.
  8. Pour into three 9-inch layer pans, lined on bottoms with paper.
  9. Bake at 350F (180C) for 30 to 35 minutes.
  10. Cool Frost tops only.
