Grilled Caramelized Onion Burgers

  1. Melt butter in 12-inch skillet until sizzling; add onions.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 35-40 minutesuntil onions are tender and deep golden brown.
  3. Stir in thyme, vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon pepper and 1/8 teaspoon salt.
  4. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes or until onions are caramelized.
  5. Heat gas grill on medium or charcoal grill until coals are ash white.
  6. Combine ground beef, mustard and salt in bowl; mix lightly.
  7. Shape into 4 (3/4-inch thick) patties.
  8. Sprinkle both sides of patties with pepper.
  9. Place patties onto grill.
  10. Grill, turning once, 10-12 minutes or until internal temperature reaches at least 160F or until desired doneness.
  11. Grill hamburger buns until toasted.
  12. Fill buns with hamburgers; top each with 1/4 cup onion mixture.
  13. *Substitute 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme leaves.
  14. Broiling Directions: Prepare onions and patties as directed above.
  15. Heat broiler.
  16. Place patties onto broiler pan.
  17. Broil, turning once, 12-15 minutes or until internal temperature reaches at least 160F or until desired doneness.
