Ye Hearty Ale Loaf

  1. In a small saucepan, heat beer and margarine until very warm (105-115F).
  2. Pour into mixing bowl.
  3. Add yeast from hot roll mix; dissolve.
  4. Add mix, egg, and sugar; mix well.
  5. Place in a greased bowl.
  6. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and cloth towel.
  7. Let rise in a warm place until light and doubled in size, about 45-60 minutes.
  8. Grease 8x4-inch loaf pan.
  9. Punch dough down.
  10. On lightly floured surface, knead dough for 2 minutes, until smooth.
  11. Shape dough into a loaf; place in prepared pan.
  12. Score the top with a sharp knife in a criss-cross pattern.
  13. Cover; let rise in warm place until light and doubled in size, 35-45 minutes.
  14. Heat oven to 350F
  15. Bake 40-45 minutes or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hallow when lightly tapped.
  16. Brush top with a little butter.
