Lori's Favorite Grape Leaves

  1. Drain leaves.
  2. Separate.
  3. Soak to remove brine.
  4. Dry on paper towels.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet.
  6. Add the beef, onion and garlic.
  7. Brown.
  8. Add the water, tomato sauce, rice,.
  9. mint, parsley, salt, pepper, cinnamon, currants, pine nuts and port.
  10. Bring to a boil.
  11. Reduce.
  12. Cover.
  13. Simmer 15 minutes.
  14. Let cool.
  15. Remove stems from leaves.
  16. Place stem side up on counter.
  17. Place 1-2 teaspoons of filling on each.
  18. Fold in sides then roll up tightly.
  19. Line the bottom of a large skillet with 4 of the leaves.
  20. Top with rolls, fitting them snuggly.
  21. Add water and lemon juice.
  22. Place a plate on top.
  23. Bring to a boil.
  24. Reduce.
  25. Cover.
  26. Simmer 45 minutes.
  27. Serve with lemon slices.
