Nicoles Semi-Homemade Salsa
- 16 ounces, weight Herdez Brand Salsa Casera, Hot
- 2 whole Medium Ripe Tomatoes
- 2 cloves Garlic
- 5 sprigs Cilantro
- 1/4 whole Medium Onion
- 1/2 whole Lime
- 2 dashes Salt, Divided
- 1.
- Pour the Herdez Salsa into your food processor.
- 2.
- Quarter the tomatoes and add them to your food processor.
- Sprinkle them with salt.
- 3.
- Make a paste out of the garlic by placing the cloves on your cutting board.
- Sprinkle them liberally with salt.
- Place the side of a large knife against a clove and push on the knife to smash the garlic.
- Kind of move it around to flatten the entire clove until it is pasty.
- Repeat with the second clove.
- Add to your food processor.
- 4.
- Tear off the very bottom inch or two of the cilantro.
- Tear the remaining sprigs into a few pieces and add to your food processor.
- (I like to use the stalks)
- 5.
- Coarsely chop the onion and add to your food processor.
- 6.
- Squeeze the juice from the lime over the ingredients in the food processor.
- 7.
- Pulse until smooth, or to the consistency that you like.
- We likes ours pretty smooth.
- Tortilla chips vary in saltiness so taste with one of your chips and see if you need more salt, tomato, cilantro, etc.
- *If you want it to be more mild, add more tomatoes or use mild or medium Herdez salsa.
- **This recipe works great to freshen up other store-brought salsas, too.
