Havurah Hallah Recipe

  1. Soften yeast in 1/2 c. hot water.
  2. Heat butter, lowfat milk, sugar and salt till sugar dissolves.
  3. Cold to lukewarm.
  4. Stir in 2 c. flour and beat well.
  5. Add in yeast mix, 2 Large eggs and beat again.
  6. Stir in sufficient flour to make a soft dough.
  7. Knead 8-10 min.
  8. Shape into ball.
  9. Place in greased bowl, turn once, and cover.
  10. Let rise, in a hot place, to double, approximately 1 1/4 hrs.
  11. Punch down.
  12. Divide into 3rds.
  13. Cover, let rest 10 min.
  14. Make 18 inch braids.
  15. Let rise again to double, approximately 30 min.
  16. Brush with egg yolk and 1 Tbsp.
  17. water.
  18. Sprinkle with sesame or possibly poppy seeds and bake at 375 in a preheated oven for 45-50 min.
