Savory Black Bean Burgers

  1. Drain and rinse black beans.
  2. Remove about half the beans and place them in a large mixing bowl.
  3. With a fork, smash the beans in the bowl to a mealy consistency.
  4. Add remaining beans and mix together.
  5. Add pepper, onion, garlic, cilantro, egg and breadcrumbs and mix to combine.
  6. Add Tabasco and mix.
  7. Refrigerate for 10 minutes.
  8. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and spray with cooking spray.
  9. Divide the bean mixture into 4 equal portions.
  10. Pat each section into a patty, like a beef patty.
  11. Place patties in the skillet and heat over medium heat for 5-6 minutes.
  12. Turn over the patties and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.
  13. Serve on bun with your favorite toppings.
  14. We used the chipotle mayo (recipe can be found on our recipe for fish tacos).
