Pocket Gyros With Yogurt Sauce
- 1 14 lbs lean ground beef
- 1 14 lbs lean ground lamb
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 large garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 14 cup chopped fresh oregano
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme sprig, crushed
- 34 teaspoon salt
- 1 12 teaspoons fresh ground pepper
- 8 (6 inch) pita bread, cut in half
- 3 medium tomatoes, chopped
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 14 cup finely chopped cucumber
- 14 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- 14 teaspoon salt
- 14 teaspoon pepper
- Combine meat, chopped onion, garlic, oregano, thyme, salt and pepper in large bowl and stir well.
- Shape into loaf pan.
- Bake at 350 for 1 1/2 hours.
- Remove from pan and cool.
- Slice into 1/4 inch slices.
- Fill pita halves with meat.
- Top with chopped tomato, sliced onion and Yogurt Sauce.
- For sauce, combine all ingredients and stir well.
- Cover and chill.
