Apple Cider Beef Stew

  1. Mix flour, salt and pepper and put in a plastic bag.
  2. Add stew meat and shake until well-coated.
  3. Brown the meat in the oil in a heavy pot or Dutch oven.
  4. Pour off any fat.
  5. Stir in the cider, lemon juice, bay leaf, cloves and allspice and basil.
  6. Bring to a boil, and simmer, covered for 1 1/2 hours.
  7. Add vegetables and apple and cook another 20 minutes.
