1986 Winner: Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies Recipe

• 11/2 c. Flour
• 1/2 c. Unsweetened cocoa pwdr
• 1/4 tsp Salt
• 1/4 tsp Baking pwdr
• 1/4 tsp Baking soda
• 1/2 c. Butter or possibly margarine,
• Softened
• 1 c. Sugar
• 1 x Egg
• 11/2 tsp Vanilla
• 48 x Maraschino cherries
• 6 ounce Semisweet chocolate chips
• 1/2 c. Sweetened condensed lowfat milk
• Cherry juice (4 to 5 tsp)

1. Preparation Time: 45 min
2. Baking Time: 10 min

4. In bowl, stir together flour, cocoa, salt, baking pwdr and baking soda.
5. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar till fluffy.
6. Add in egg and vanilla to butter-sugar mix and beat well.
7. Gradually add in dry ingredients to butter-sugar mix and beat till well blended.

9. Shape dough into 1-inch balls.
10. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and push down center of each ball with thumb.
11. Drain cherries and reserve juice.
12. Place 1 cherry in center of each indentation.
13. Heat oven to 350 degrees.

15. For frosting, put chocolate chips and sweetened condensed lowfat milk in small saucepan.
16. Heat till chocolate melts.
17. Stir in 4 tsp.
18. cherry juice.
19. If too thick, add in more juice.

21. Spoon 1 tsp.
22. frosting over each cherry.
23. Spread to cover cherry.
24. Bake 10 min or possibly till done.
25. Don't overcook.
26. Remove to wire rack and cold.
