Coffee BBQ sauce

  1. in a medium saucepan, melt butter in oil over medium heat.
  2. when foam subsides, add onion and garlic
  3. add ancho powder, cumin, coriander and paprika.
  4. cook stirring until fragrant about a minute
  5. add ketchup and brown sugar.
  6. stir and cook just until the sugar dissolves
  7. stir in coffee, broth, vinegar and worchestershire sauce
  8. season with salt and pepper
  9. simmer over medium low heat until onions are soft and liquid is reduced by half, about 25 minutes
  10. transfer to a blender and process until smooth
  11. will keep in frig for 1 month in tightly covered container
  12. This is good on grilled meats and poultry, pork spare ribs.
  13. Also makes a great addition to baked beans, chilies and stews.
  14. Use it both as a glaze and a sauce
  15. this makes about 1-3/4 cups
