Multi Purpose Tomato Sauce
- 1 onion finely diced
- 2 clove garlic crushed
- 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
- 1 tbsp tomato puree
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 cubes of frozen spinach
- 1 chicken stock cube
- 1 generous pinch of salt and pepper
- 1 tsp dry oregano
- 1 bunch of fresh basil
- 1 dash of Worcester sauce
- 1 tbsp cooking oil (I use sunflower oil)
- 1/2 tin of white or red wine (using the tin from the tomatoes)
- this recipe is for people who are learning how to cook.
- this sauce is used in so many dishes.
- just knowing how to adapt it to your own preference will widen your cooking abilities
- to use as a bolognese brown off mince in a pan before adding the onion and continue with the rest of the recipe
- heat onion in a pan with oil and cook until clear.
- add garlic, tin tomatoes, tomato puree and wine, simmer to reduce the amount of liquid.
- stiring occasionally
- add Worcester sauce, herbs, spinach, stock cube, sugar, salt and pepper.
- stir and simmer until the thickness of your liking
- add tuna or sausages with pasta.
- top with bread crumbs and cheese then grill for pasta dish
- if using mince serve with spaghetti, parmasan and garlic bread
- blend until smooth, rip up basil into it and swirl in some double cream for soup
- add courgettes, peppers or any of your favourite veg to make easy veggie pasta sauce (and change chicken stock for veg stock)
- reduce until really thick, blend and spread over pizza base and top with cheese
- the type of wine depends on your own personal preference.
- white gives it a nice crisp light sweet flavour where as red gives it a deep dark rich flavour.
- dont use wine you dont like (aka cooking wine) it wont be much better in your food
