Classic Salisbury Steaks

  1. Mix ground beef, bread crumbs, salt, pepper and egg; shape into 4 oval patties, each about 3/4 inch thick.
  2. Cook patties in skillet over medium heat, turning occasionally, until brown, about ten minutes; drain off any accumulated fat.
  3. Add onion, broth and mushrooms.
  4. Heat to boiling, reduce heat and simmer until beef is done, about 10 minutes.
  5. Remove patties, keep warm.
  6. Heat onion mixture to boiling.
  7. Mix water and cornstarch; stir into onion mixture.
  8. Boil and stir 1 minute.
  9. Place one steak on each plate, spoon the onions and mushroom gravy over each steak.
  10. Serve with mashed potatoes.
  11. This recipe is very economical and can really stretch your food dollar.
  12. Typical cost per serving is about $1!
