Christmas Stollen

  1. Dissolve yeast in 3/4 cup of warm water.
  2. Add sugar, salt, butter, eggs and yolk, and 1 3/4 cups of flour.
  3. Beat 10 minutes at medium speed of electric mixer or by hand.
  4. Scrape bowl frequently.
  5. Stir in other 1 3/4 cups flour, and rest of ingredients.
  6. Cover, let rise in warm place until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours.
  7. Beat 25 strokes.
  8. Cover tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate overnight.
