Delicious Apple Strudel

  1. Thaw the pastry sheet at room temperature for 40 minutes or until its easy to handle.
  2. Heat the oven to 375F Lightly grease a baking sheet.
  3. Beat the egg and water in a small bowl with a fork.
  4. Stir the sugar, flour and cinnamon in a medium bowl.
  5. Add the apples and raisins and toss to coat.
  6. (make sure to toss well so that the apples are evenly coated).
  7. Unfold the pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
  8. Roll the pastry sheet into a 16 x 12-inch rectangle.
  9. With the short side facing you, spoon the apple mixture onto the bottom half of the pastry sheet to within 1-inch of the edges.
  10. Starting at the short side, roll up like a jelly roll.
  11. Tuck the ends under to seal.
  12. Place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
  13. Brush the pastry with the egg mixture.
  14. Cut several 2-inch-long slits 2 inches apart on the top.
  15. Bake for 35 minutes or until the pastry is golden.
  16. Cool on the baking sheet on a wire rack for 30 minutes.
  17. Sprinkle with the confectioners' sugar, if desired.
