Pretzel Homemade
- 1 cup Warm Milk
- 1 envelope Yeast - or 2 1/4 tsp
- 3 tbsp Light brown Sugar
- 2 cup All purpose Flour
- 2 tbsp Butter plus More for topping baked bread
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/3 cup Baking Soda
- Warm milk into medium bowl.
- Sprinkle yeast and wait 2 minutes.
- Then add Brown sugar and 1 Cup Flour and stir with wooden spoon.
- Dice soften (2 Tbls) Butter then add to mixture.
- Add gradually, rest of flour and Salt.
- Dough will be sticky.
- Knead more flour in just to make dough manageable.
- Make a ball, cover good with plastic wrap and let rise in a slightly warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 450F.
- Butter or grease baking sheet.
- After risen, Punch down dough and form 6 balls.
- Roll each into a rope and form your pretzels.
- Cover dough to keep from getting dry.
- Large pot, dissolve baking soda in 4 cups water.
- Bring water to good heat, not boiling.
- Dip each pretzel dough in water for 1 minute.
- This is the most complicated part and takes practice.
- Arrange each on buttered baking sheet.
- Bake 10 - 12 minutes.
- Melt butter to brush each, then sprinkle with course salt.
