Bakery-Like Frosting
- 3 cups vegetable shortening
- 4 cups confectioners' sugar
- 2 teaspoons clear vanilla
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons cornstarch
- 4 egg whites
- 8 cups confectioners' sugar
- Whip the shortening, 4 cups sugar, vanilla, salt and cornstarch together until fluffy.
- Add the egg whites and remaining sugar alternately and whip till light and fluffy.
- You may use pasteurized whites if you like.
- I find that they turn white icing a funny color, gives the frosting a yellow cast.
- That certainly doesn't work with a wedding cake!
- This recipe can be easily halved.
