Blackberry Barbecue Sauce (Slow Cooker)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 small sweet onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 14 cup red wine
- 14 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 12 lbs blackberries
- 14 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 lemon
- salt, a pinch
- red pepper flakes, a pinch
- Add the oil and onion to a microwave-safe bowl.
- Cover and microwave on high for 1 minute or until the onion is transparent.
- Stir in the garlic; cover and microwave on high for 30 seconds.
- Add the onion-garlic mixture to the slow cooker along with the wine, vinegar, blackberries, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, grated zest from the lemon, salt, and red pepper flakes; stir to combine.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours or until thickened.
- Stir in the lemon juice, from the lemon.
- Strain through a mesh strainer if desired.
- Can be refrigerated in covered containers for up to 2 weeks.
