Russian Bread Recipe
- 4 1/2 c. flour
- 1 cake yeast
- 1 1/4 c. scalded lowfat milk
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. raisins
- 2 Large eggs
- 1/4 c. butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Cinnamon to taste
- Dissolve yeast in scalded lowfat milk (tepid).
- Add in 1 1/2 c. flour.
- Mix till smooth.
- Let stand till light and fluffy.
- Add in Large eggs, sugar, butter, salt and remaining flour and cinnamon.
- Mix to a stiff dough, knead thoroughly.
- Let stand till double.
- Bake about 30 min at 350 degrees.
- NOTE: I like to divide in three parts---braid (as you would your hair) and put it on a cookie sheet to bake.
- Make-up a small amount of icing as you would for cookies and pour on top area.
