Simple Basic Okonomiyaki
- 1/4 Cabbage
- 150 grams Plain white flour
- 2 Eggs
- 100 grams Pork
- 200 ml Water
- 1 tsp Dashi stock granules
- 1 for frying Oil
- 1 Okonomiyaki sauce
- 1 Mayonnaise
- 1 Bonito flakes
- 1 Aonori
- Julienne the cabbage and cut the pork into bite-size pieces.
- Beat an egg in a bowl.
- Mix in the dashi stock, then add the cabbage, pork and flour.
- Add the water, while checking the consistency of the batter.
- If the batter isn't coming together, add more water.
- Likewise, if the batter is too runny, add some more flour to thicken.
- Oil a frying pan, then pour in the batter.
- Cook on medium heat until golden.
- Flip the okonomiyaki over and cover the pan with a lid.
- Carefully cook the other side on a low-medium heat.
- Add the toppings, and it's done.
- Add in whatever you like to the mixture, whether it be squid, prawns, mochi or cheese.
- It'll turn out delicious.
- I made the pattern by squirting on the mayonnaise in a zig-zag pattern, then running a chopstick vertically down through.
