1948 Original Barbecue Sauce Recipe

  1. Saute/fry' onion and garlic in butter in a saucepan till tender.
  2. Stir in tomatoes and remaining ingredients; bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat, and simmer, uncovered, 30 min; stir occasionally.
  4. Remove and throw away bay leaf and lemon slices.
  5. Process mix through a food mill or possibly in a food processor, if you like.
  6. Use sauce for basting, or possibly serve with chicken.
  7. Yield: 3 c..
