Cheese & Shallot Party Spread
- 1 tablespoon Land O Lakes Butter
- 2 large (1/4 cup) shallots, finely chopped*
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup Land O Lakes Butter, softened
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon country-style Dijon mustard, if desired
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- Fresh rosemary sprigs, if desired
- Assorted crackers
- Melt 1 tablespoon butter in 10-inch skillet until sizzling; add shallots and sugar.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 6-8 minutes or until shallots are browned and caramelized.
- Immediately remove from heat.
- Cool 10 minutes.
- Combine shallot mixture and all remaining spread ingredients in bowl.
- Beat at medium speed until creamy.
- Cover; refrigerate 1 hour.
- Shape cheese mixture on waxed paper into pine cone shape.
- Place onto serving plate.
- Insert sliced almonds at an angle to resemble pine cone.
- Cover; refrigerate 2 hours or overnight to blend flavors.
- Garnish with rosemary sprigs just before serving, if desired.
- Serve with assorted crackers.
