Saskatoon Berry Pie
- 1 egg
- 7 oz. sugar
- 1 dash salt
- 7 oz. vegetable shortening
- 1 splash lemon juice
- 1/8 oz. vanilla flavour
- 14-1/8 oz. flour
- 7/8 qt. water
- 7 oz. pie dough
- 1-1/3 lb. blueberries and saskatoon berries, mixed together
- 2-5/8 oz. sugar
- 1-1/4 oz. flour
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 qt. milk
- Pie dough: Mix sugar, eggs, vanilla flavour, lemon juice and salt.
- Whip until fluffy, approximately five minutes.
- Add vegetable shortening; whip until creamy.
- Then add water and flour.
- Mix well for three minutes.
- Refrigerate the dough before using.
- To the berry mixture, add sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Add eggs and milk.
- Strain mixture to get rid of lumps.
- Pour over berries.
- Seal and bake at 350F for approximately one hour.
