Firefly Squid and New Potatoes Stewed in Fish Sauce

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Soak in water briefly.
  3. Squash the garlic.
  4. Cut the komatsuna into bite-sized pieces.
  5. Remove the eyes and beak from the firefly squids.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan, and stir-fry the new potatoes.
  7. Cook the potatoes until they're coated with the oil and are translucent.
  8. Add 1 cup (200 ml) of water in the pan, and cover with a lid.
  9. Cook for 7 minutes.
  10. Flip the potatoes occasionally while cooking.
  11. Add rest of the ingredients except for the komatsuna.
  12. Cook for 7 more minutes.
  13. Add komatsuna and boil briefly until dark green.
