Christmas Circle Cookies

  1. Combine 1 cup butter and sugar in bowl; beat at medium speed until creamy.
  2. Add egg, milk and almond flavoring; continue beating until well mixed.
  3. Add flour and baking powder.
  4. Beat at low speed until well mixed.
  5. Divide dough in half.
  6. Shape each half into ball; flatten slightly.
  7. Wrap each in plastic food wrap; refrigerate at least 2 to 3 hours until firm.
  8. Heat oven to 400F.
  9. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface, one-half at a time (keeping remaining dough refrigerated), to 1/8- to 1/4-inch thickness.
  10. Cut with 3-inch round cookie cutter.
  11. Place 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  12. Bake 6-8 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
  13. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to cooling rack.
  14. Cool completely.
  15. Combine powdered sugar, 2/3 cup butter, vanilla and enough whipping cream for desired frosting consistency in bowl.
  16. Beat at medium speed until well mixed.
  17. Reserve a portion of white frosting.
  18. Tint remaining portions of frosting with desired food colors.
  19. Spread or pipe frosting as desired.
