Greek Gyros
- 2 lb. ground lamb
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1 tsp. dried mint
- 1/8 tsp. oregano
- 1 tsp. thyme
- 1 tsp. ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1/4 cup parsley, snipped
- Tzatziki sauce
- Combine lamb, garlic, lemon juice, basil, marjoram, thyme, rosemary, salt, pepper and parsley in a large bowl.
- Blend well.
- Make thin patties and fry like a hamburger in heated skillet.
- Drain off grease.
- Some people split the pita bread to make a pocket, some just fold it in half like a taco and others lay in flat on a plate.
- Pile on the meat, fresh sliced tomatoes and thinly sliced raw onion.
- Top the whole thing with Tzatziki sauce and eat it with a knife and fork.
- You can also pile the whole lot into a meatloaf tin and bake as you would for meatloaf.
- Its easier to carve into thin slices then.
