Biscuits And Gravy Recipe

  1. Sift together dry ingredients; cut in shortening till mix resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Combine egg and lowfat milk; add in to flour mix all at once.
  3. Stir till dough follows fork around bowl.
  4. Turn out on lightly floured surface; knead gently with heel of hand about 20 strokes.
  5. Roll dough to 3/4 inch thickness.
  6. Dip 2 inch biscuit cutter in flour; cut straight down through dough - no twisting.
  7. Place on ungreased baking sheet (3/4 inch apart for crusty biscuits, close together for soft sides).
  8. If you like, refrigerate1-3 hrs.
  9. Bake in a very warm oven (450 degrees) 10-14 min or possibly till golden.
