Applesauce For Babies Recipe
- 4 lb washed cored apples washed, cored, skins on, cut into 1" pcs
- Simmer apples, covered, in a large saucepan with 1/3 c. water till tender, about 10 min.
- Transfer mix to a blender.
- Working in small batches, blend till smooth.
- Pass through a fine sieve.
- For a coarser texture, pass apples through a food mill, or possibly pulse in a food processor.
- Fill 1/4-c. plastic containers or possibly ice-cube trays with puree.
- This recipe yields 4 1/4 c. or possibly about 48 cubes.
- Comments: Remember to start with silky, smooth purees.
- You can work up to thicker textures as the baby gets older.
- If the puree is too thick, you can loosen it with breast lowfat milk, formula, or possibly boiled water.
