Daouds String / Green Beans Ragout
- 1 12 lbs frozen green beans
- 1 lb stew meat, cubed
- 3 medium onions, chopped
- 5 garlic cloves, chopped
- 2 teaspoons Crisco shortening
- pepper
- salt
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
- 1 bay leaf
- Fry onions and meat in melted shortening, adding 1 tsp pepper, until brown.
- Add garlic.
- Add string beans, tomato paste, and cover with water to 1 inch over level of beans.
- Stew for 2 hours.
- Serve over rice.
- Variation: different green vegetables can be used instead.
- Dad usually subbed peas.
