Tteokbokki Gratin

  1. Soak the tteokbokki in water.
  2. (I don't know why, but my Korean husband always does this.)
  3. This time I used 2 types of tteok.
  4. Slice the onion and cook in olive oil.
  5. Once cooked, add the water and flavoring ingredients.
  6. Bring to a boil.
  7. Add the drained tteokbokki and cook.
  8. Once the liquid has boiled down, add the butter for flavor.
  9. Place into a heat-resistant dish and top with cheese.
  10. Optionally top with green onion, parsley, or another colored garnish, and bake in the oven until browned.
  11. I used this brand of tteok.
  12. I recommend a chewy, sticky type.
