Ale Chocolate Frosting
- 6 ounces amber ale
- 1 ounce dutch processed cocoa unsweetened, powder
- 8 ounces butter, unsalted softened
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 24 ounces sugar confectioners'
- 1 x chocolate shavings from a dark chocolate candy bar for garnish
- n a saucepan bring the ale to a boil, remove from the heat and add cocoa powder, stirring until dissolved.
- Cool completely in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- With the whisk attachment on your electric mixer whip the butter until light and creamy.
- Add the cooled ale mixture and blend well.
- Add vanilla.
- Start adding confectioners sugar a little at a time whipping completely after each addition.
- Whip until a spreadable consistency is achieved.
- To assemble, turn one of the cake layers on a cake plate.
- Frost the top with some of the frosting.
- Place the second layer on top.
- Frost the top of that layer and the sides of the cake.
- Make chocolate shavings by running a vegetable peeler over the candy bar.
- Garnish the top of cake with the shavings.
